My return flight was delayed, so I took a taxi to a hotel. Does the insurance on my CIBC card cover this expense?
Flight Delay coverage provides reimbursement of ground transportation expenses directly to your hotel during the period of flight delay. This coverage is subject to a maximum limit of $100.
My return flight home was unexpectedly delayed. This resulted in me having to prolong my hotel stay by one extra night. Am I covered for this expense?
Flight Delay coverage provides reimbursement for reasonable living expenses such as meals and accommodations, up to a maximum limit of $500, provided the full fare for your flight was charged to your eligible CIBC card. Please retain your receipts and forward them to your insurer when you return home.
My flight was delayed due to weather, and the airline cannot put me on another flight until tomorrow. What are the benefits provided by my CIBC card in this situation?

Your coverage also provides reimbursement for ground transportation and entertainment expenses, up to a maximum limit of $100 per insured person.
I lost my luggage travelling by bus. What am I covered for?
Provided your bus fare was charged to your eligible CIBC card, Baggage Insurance coverage provides reimbursement of up to $500 per insured person, to a maximum of $1000 per claim for your lost luggage and its contents. ($1,000 per insured person to a maximum of $2,500 per claim for the CIBC Aerogold® Visa Infinite Privilege Card). This coverage is in excess of any other insurance or compensation available to you. Please claim through the bus carrier first.
I lost my carry-on luggage on my flight. It had my iPod, camera, cell phone and laptop in it. What can I claim?
Lost or Stolen Baggage coverage provides reimbursement for your baggage and the personal property it contained, subject to the following exclusions: cameras and accessories, eye/sunglasses, animals, certain sporting equipment, securities, money, contact lenses, prosthetic devices, furs, tickets, valuable papers and documents. Carry-on luggage and the property it contained is covered for up to $500 per insured person to a limit of $1,000 per claim ($1,000 per insured person to a maximum of $2,500 per claim for the Aerogold® Visa Infinite Privilege Card). Payment is based on the actual replacement cost (if replaced), or actual cash value if not replaced.
Are my spouse and children covered under the Out-of-Province Emergency Travel Medical insurance on my card?
As the Primary Cardholder, you, your spouse and your dependent children have emergency medical insurance coverage up to the amount of $5,000,000 CAD, per insured person, per trip. You also have access to our emergency travel services when you travel outside your Canadian province or territory of permanent residence.
I am 70 years old. Am I covered for medical emergencies under the Out of Province Medical Insurance Coverage that is included on my CIBC card?
Each card offers a different level of coverage for travelers over the age of 65. Please check your Certificate of Insurance or call 1 866 363-3338 to confirm.
I have a heart condition; will I be covered if I travel and have a heart attack?
This insurance provides coverage for pre-existing medical conditions as long as the stability requirements outlined in your Certificate of Insurance are met. You will not be covered if in the 90 days (180 days if you are aged 65 and over) before your trip, your heart condition has not been stable, or you have taken nitroglycerin more than once per week specifically for the relief of angina pain.
Am I covered for pre-existing medical conditions while I travel?
This insurance provides coverage for pre-existing medical conditions as long as the stability requirements outlined in your Certificate of Insurance are met. You are not covered for expenses resulting from or relating to any pre-existing medical condition if, in the 90 days (180 days if you are aged 65 or over) before your departure date, that condition or a related condition has not been stable.
Does this insurance cover dental?
This insurance covers up to $2,000 for emergency dental treatment at your trip destination, to repair or replace your natural teeth as the result of an accidental blow to the face. Both the accident and treatment must occur within the coverage period outlined in your Certificate of Insurance. Coverage is also provided for charges of up to $200 for emergency relief of dental pain at your trip destination. This excludes crowns and root canals.
Does this medical policy cover chiropractic treatments?
Yes. This insurance covers charges up to a maximum of $300 each for the services of a licensed chiropractor, physiotherapist, chiropodist, podiatrist or osteopath when they are needed due to an emergency that occurs during your trip. The services that are covered include x-rays. Be sure to keep your receipts because you will need them to make your claim.
Do I need to call before I see a doctor while travelling?
Yes, you must call the Assistance and Claims Service Provider at the first available opportunity when you need emergency medical service. The Assistance and Claims Service Provider is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If in Canada or the U.S.A., call toll-free at 1-866-363-3338 or call collect at (905) 403-3338 (from anywhere else in the world). If you do not call the Assistance and Claims Service Provider, the medical treatment you receive may not be covered by this insurance.
If I receive a flight credit as reimbursement for cancelling, can I still claim the full amount of my trip?
No, you can only make a claim for non-refundable and non-transferable portions of your trip. A credit is considered a refund under this insurance.
Can I claim for the value of my tickets if I don’t want a credit?
If you do not want the credit issued by the airline you must wait until the credit has expired, at which point you should contact the Assistance and Claims Service Provider.
Can I claim for the value of my ticket if the credit expires?
Yes, if the credit has expired you can then contact the Assistance and Claims Service Provider.
Do I need to provide proof that I will not use the credit?
Yes, we require proof from the travel supplier showing that the credit has been cancelled or has expired to be able to process your claim.
Can you cancel the credit for me?
We are not authorized to cancel travel credits on behalf of cardholders.
Are my spouse and children covered for Trip Cancellation & Trip Interruption?
Provided your trip has been charged to your eligible CIBC card, trip cancellation & trip interruption insurance covers you (the Primary Cardholder), your spouse, dependent children and travel companion, for certain losses while travelling resulting from cancellation, interruption or delay of your trip due to a covered reason.
Is my grandmother covered for Trip Cancellation & Trip Interruption?
Coverage is available for a travelling companion, defined as any person (up to a maximum of two people), other than a spouse or dependent children, who is sharing travel arrangements with you. Pre-paid travel arrangements for you and your travelling companion need to be charged at the same time on your eligible CIBC card.
Is there a trip length restriction for my trip interruption coverage?
No. There is no trip length restriction for your trip interruption insurance; it continues to be in effect until midnight of your return date.
My trip was booked with the points earned under my card’s travel reward program. If I have to cancel the trip, what would I be eligible to claim for?
Please note that in this case the points would not be reinstated. Once you make a claim, the claims assessors would determine the cash value of your trip, and this is the amount that would be eligible for reimbursement.
I need to interrupt my trip but did not purchase my trip on my CIBC card. Can I make a claim through my CIBC insurance?
No, you must have purchased the trip with your CIBC card to qualify for coverage.

Is the Car Rental Collision/Loss Damage Insurance coverage worldwide?
What does my CIBC card cover in terms of car rental coverage?
Provided the full cost of the rental is charged to your eligible CIBC card, Car Rental Collision / Loss Damage Insurance covers you for theft, loss and damage, up to the actual cash value of the rental vehicle and for any rental agency loss of use charges. For example, any physical damage, vandalism, fire, theft, or damage to tires and windshields would be covered up to the full vehicle value. This coverage has a rental period limit of 48 days and covers damage or theft of a rental vehicle up to the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price outlined in your Certificate of Insurance.
What types of vehicles are excluded from this coverage?
Vehicles excluded from coverage include: vans, cargo vans, trucks, pick-up trucks, off-road vehicles, motorcycles and any vehicle, in its model year, over the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price outlined in your Certificate of Insurance. The vehicles listed here is not a complete list of excluded vehicles. Please refer to your Certificate of Insurance for the full list of exclusions.
Do I have to pay a deductible with this coverage?
Can I decline all insurance coverage at the rental agency?
Car Rental Collision / Loss Damage Insurance covers you for vehicle loss or damage but does not include the contents of the vehicle. There is no coverage for third party liability, personal injury, damage to property, normal vehicle wear and tear or mechanical/electrical vehicle breakdown.
How long can I rent a car for and be covered by my CIBC insurance?
Coverage for the rental vehicle cannot be extended for more than 48 consecutive days. If a rental period is longer than 48 days, no coverage is provided for that entire rental period.
How do I use the Car Rental Collision / Loss Damage Insurance in countries where collision damage insurance from the rental agency is mandatory (i.e. Italy, Australia)?
It is true that collision damage insurance is mandatory in some countries. In this case, should a loss occur, the rental agency will cover your loss according to the terms and conditions of their contract, subject to a deductible. Upon reviewing your claim, we may reimburse you up to the cost of the deductible.

What are the Purchase Security benefits on my CIBC card?
The Purchase Security benefit provides worldwide coverage in the event of loss, theft or damage of qualified purchases charged to an eligible CIBC card. If the item is stolen or damaged it may be replaced or repaired, or we may reimburse you up to the original cost of the item.
What are the Extended Protection benefits on my CIBC card?
The Extended Protection benefit provides cardholders with an extension to the term of the original manufacturer’s warranty. This extension is up to a maximum of one additional full year (two additional years for the CIBC Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege Card), commencing at the expiry of the manufacturer’s original warranty term. Please note, the manufacturer's warranty must be honoured in Canada or the U.S, and items must be charged to your eligible CIBC card.

No, Mobile Device Insurance is only triggered if your mobile device is purchased with your eligible CIBC card on or after November 8, 2020.
I financed my mobile phone and 40 days later it was stolen and I reported it to the police. Does this insurance cover theft?
Yes, provided you financed all or any portion of the purchase price with your eligible CIBC card through a Canadian wireless service provider’s installment plan. This coverage is in excess of any other insurance or compensation available to you.
10 days after I purchased my mobile phone it was stolen. Am I covered under Mobile Device Insurance?
No, Mobile Device Insurance is only triggered 91 days after your purchase. You may be covered by Purchase Security Insurance. Please check your Certificate of Insurance for further information.
I purchased a new Mobile Phone for $800, charged the full purchase price of the phone to my eligible CIBC credit card and connected it to a Canadian wireless plan. I lost my phone 14 months later. What am I covered for?
Purchase price $800 Less depreciation cost - $224 ($800 X 2% X 14 months) Depreciated value $576 Less deductible - $ 57.60 ($576 X 10%) Reimbursement $518.40 This coverage is in excess of any other insurance or compensation available to you.
I purchased my mobile phone prior to February 1, 2021 and I lost it 6 months later. Am I covered?
No, Mobile Device Insurance is only triggered if your mobile device is purchased with your eligible CIBC card on or after February 1, 2021.

Insurance coverage(s) included with CIBC credit cards are underwritten by Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Company of Canada (RSA). Different cards will have different coverage(s). To learn about which coverage(s) are included with a specific card, and important information regarding coverage eligibility requirements, benefits, limitations and exclusions, see our Agreements and Insurance page and the insurance certificate(s) in your card package. Some insurance coverage(s) require purchase(s), auto rentals, common carrier fares and other trip costs to be charged to the card to activate coverage. Other conditions may also apply. Auto Rental Collision and Loss Damage Insurance (CLDI) is available for automobile rentals of up to 48 days for rental vehicles with a MSRP up to $65,000 (the CIBC Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege Card covers rental vehicles with a MSRP up to $85,000). The full cost of the rental must be charged to the card and the rental agency’s Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) or Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) must be declined. CLDI provides coverage up to the actual cash value (ACV) of the rental vehicle as defined in your insurance certificate. Note that some rental agencies may assess their damages at an amount greater than the ACV of the rental vehicle and you may be liable to them for the difference. Before declining the rental agency’s CDW or LDW, you should read carefully and compare the terms of the rental agreement, the CLDI insurance certificate in your card package and any other insurance you own to decide which coverage best meets your protection needs. For the CIBC Aventura Infinite Visa card, CIBC Aventura World MasterCard or CIBC Aventura World Elite MasterCard, Out-of-Province Emergency Travel Medical Insurance (TMI) covers the primary cardholder, their spouse and dependent children for the first 15 days of a trip if the insured person is age 64 or under, or for the first 3 days of a trip if the insured person is age 65 or older. Dependent children must be under 21 years of age or under 25 years of age if a full-time student, unless they have a permanent physical or mental impairment. TMI, Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption Insurance may not cover certain pre-existing health/medical conditions. Certain RSA coverages are “excess insurance” (all other sources of insurance and recovery must be exhausted before coverage is available).
